Marketing on a Shoestring Budget

Marketing on a shoestring budget

Always develop a marketing budget for your company.  The marketing budget is based on how much you are trying to accomplish for your company and the current stage of growth.

Marketing expenses decrease over years as your company starts to build brand awareness.  Therefore, it should look like an inverted pyramid.  Initially, you have to spend more time on impressions, marketing materials, and primary research.  So, your marketing budget will be much larger in the beginning.

Your marketing expense may start out at 15% to 20% of your revenue based on your business to develop a marketing program.  If you are just starting out you may have to create a logo, purchase database software and develop ads for print, radio and possibly television.  In addition, if you have a retail location you might need signage and POS (point of sale) items at your location.

Climb the unconquerable mountain

Climb the unconquerable mountain

In the 1950’s people would dream about going to the moon.  In the late 1960’s the microwave oven started to enter households.  The 1970’s ushered in more color television sets into most living rooms.  In the 1980’s the home computer entered feverishly into our homes along with video game consoles.  The 90’s featured the expanded use of the World Wide Web and email.  The new millennium has shown us that all is possible with streaming music, social media sites and much more.

In every case, someone or a group of people had to think about space travel, Donkey Kong, Facebook or the iPad.  Are you next?

What is your unbelievable innovation? How will you share it with the world? MARKETING, that’s how!

The world is waiting!

PROBLEM…

I created my own marketing materials with an online company.  Why am I having a problem with acquiring new customers?

SOLUTION…

The answer is very simple. The online company is relying on you to have some basic information and knowledge about marketing. They are NOT focused on your target market, market conditions or the reaction you want from the customer. Marketing is not a shot in the dark.  There are some prerequisites to developing marketing materials.

  • Messaging is very important.  Your message must resonate with the recipient.
  • The design should get the “right” reaction from the intended target.
  • You have to use the right marketing tool for the prospective customer.

I appreciate the convenience of websites that provide these services.  But you need to understand that every “cheap deal” is not a deal at all.
